During the summer of 2023, I spent two weeks in Bali, immersing myself in local traditional dances while also teaching ballet to young Balinese girls.

The island's breathtaking beauty, rich traditions, and vibrant art left a lasting impression on me, but the transformative friendships established during this time were truly inspiring.

In response to these experiences, I founded Beats2Feats to support the local dance community and English education. This initiative invites professional dance instructors to teach ballet, while participants learn local dances, fostering a two-way cultural exchange that creates enduring educational opportunities.

In Cambodia, I had the honor of collaborating with the Sacred Dancers of Angkor, the nation's only spiritual dance troupe, founded by Ravynn Karet-Coxen. This partnership facilitated my immersion in traditional Khmer dance forms, including the royal court dance, Robam Preah Reach Trop, and various contemporary folk dances that highlight the country's diverse ethnic traditions. Beats2Feats strives to enhance local dance education, preserving traditional practices while opening new avenues for participants.

As I prepare for college, I look forward to continuing my passion for dance through engaging in dance societies and programs that celebrate cultural diversity. My goal is to integrate my academic and artistic interests, ensuring a rich college experience filled with personal growth and community involvement through dance. I aim to connect with fellow dancers, explore different styles, and contribute to a dynamic campus dance community.

Dance has profoundly enriched my life. My travels through South Asia with Beats2Feats have allowed me to teach ballet while absorbing local traditional dances, deepening my appreciation for diverse cultures.

These journeys have also influenced my artistic projects, such as designing a 1:50 prototype of a dance studio crafted from bamboo, inspired by the graceful forms of Balinese Legong dance. This design successfully balances flowing curves with structural geometry, honoring tradition while emphasizing sustainability.

Driven by my curiosity about culture and expression, I have developed a strong interest in art history and anthropology, which guide my understanding of how societies visually communicate their values and beliefs, as well as offering insights into human behavior and customs. I have achieved notable milestones in dance, such as earning my RAD Ballet Grade 8 Award with distinction and advancing to Advanced 2. Some of my cherished experiences include performing in the Hong Kong Ballet’s "Nutcracker" and presenting a 20-minute contemporary piece with the Gloucestershire Symphony Orchestra.
